Update for Monday, October 7th
Dear Church family and friends,
Our “Verse of the Year” series continued on Sunday with Lucas preaching from the book of Ecclesiastes. Although the book is known for being seemingly void of hope, Lucas reminded us that there is meaning and purpose to and in our lives – we just need to find the right way of measuring it. Should you have been a part of IBC Giessen for a while, you might be wondering about our next Potluck, after all there is usually one around this time of year at roughly the same time as Thanksgiving. Wait no more, we have a date! There will be a sign-up sheet at the back of the Church after every service, right up until 3rd November.
This Week in Church…
In a change to their regular schedule, Young Adults’ Bible Study (YABS) will be hosting their ‘all-together’ meeting next week, on 15th October. This has been planned to coincide with the arrival of new students. Let’s pray that more will join the YABS groups, and this area of our ministry continues to thrive!
For this week, though, YABS will meet in their smaller groups in various locations around Giessen, all with the starting time of 7pm. To find out which is nearest to you, or which one is the English speaking group, please write to yabs@ibc-giessen.org.
On Wednesday, our new season of Mid-Week Bible Study starts! This time in a hybrid form, you are more than welcome to join the group studying the book of Galatians either face-to-face in the FTH, or online via Zoom. Start time is 7pm. So that we may have an idea of numbers, we would appreciate it if you got in touch via office@ibc-giessen.org if you plan on attending, regardless of which medium you use to do so.
Happy Birthday King’s Daughters! The ladies will be celebrating one year of this new Women’s Ministry at IBC Giessen by going on a hike to Burg Gleiberg. Further information can be gained by writing to office@ibc-giessen.org, including where the 11am meeting point is. You can also register your intention to join using the same address, and the deadline for doing so is Thursday (10th). Don’t forget to bring a jacket or umbrella, as well as a drink and snacks to keep you well-fuelled!
To round off the week, we then have Sunday! Our service starts at the usual time off 11am, in The Chapel Room of the FTH. If you are unable to make it, you are more than welcome to join our livestream – just write us an e-mail for the link.
In the not-so-distant future…
… is the Adonia concert on the life of Peter. The concert itself is in German, but it is free to attend. It takes place in the August-Hermann-Francke-Schule on Talstrasse – which is not all that far from IBC Giessen – on Wednesday 16th October at 7:30pm.
It comes quicker than you think…
The announcements for Christmas-based events keep coming: the new addition this week being the Women’s Christmas Brunch! The ladies are invited to a spectacular festive brunch on Saturday 30th November in the Student Kitchen of the FTH. A sign-up list will make its appearance at the back of the Church over next few weeks, so if you are a woman looking forward to getting into the Christmas spirit, be sure to put your name down!
We are looking forward to a special service on 3rd Advent Sunday (15th December). How this takes shape, however, is down to the amount of volunteers willing to get involved. This is the last call for singers in the Christmas Cantata! If you can dedicate some time to rehearsal after service and would like to join the choir, please get in touch with Simone via office@ibc-giessen.org as soon as possible!
May God bless you richly this week!
