Dear Church family and friends,
In keeping with the idea that the New Year should bring about a fresh outlook on our habits and behaviours, we at IBC Giessen will not have a traditional ‘Verse of the Year’ which will be returned to every first Sunday of the month: rather we will be asking ourselves the same question, with the Psalms providing us some answers. If you are familiar with the song “Let Everything that has Breath Praise the Lord”, perhaps you may already have some suggestions in order to complete the sentence – “We Praise God When…?”. Pastor Buddy offered his own response on Sunday, using Psalm 19 as his basis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B77ihMOenSo
This week in Church…
Praying Moms met online this morning (Monday 5th). Their next prayer session is on Tuesday 13th at 7:30pm.
Young Adults’ Bible Study (YABS) meets on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. More information can be found in the WhatsApp group or by asking Pastor Johannes, Mona or Oliver. Another way you can get in touch is by writing to yabs@ibc-giessen.org.
Worship Service takes place on Sunday at 11am in the Chapel Room of the FTH. If you are ill, we wish you well, but ask that you remain at home and watch our livestream.
For a full list of all upcoming events at IBC Giessen, please take a look at the Church Calendar on our website: https://www.ibc-giessen.org/calendar/. If you require a link to our livestream or any other online activity we have coming up this week, please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org.
An Outlook for January…
IBC Giessen is part of the ‘Evangelische Allianz Gießen‘, along with a number of other Churches, organisations and groups, including the Freie Theologische Hochschule (FTH) – where we meet on Sundays. A week of prayer with several events taking place in Giessen, hosted by those in those in the Allianz, will be happening next week (Monday 12th). Our event takes at the FTH on Wednesday 14th at 7:30pm, and will be held in German – as all other meetings will be. For more information, just click here: www.ev-allianz-giessen.de/allianz-gebetswoche.
The week after that, on Wednesday 21st January, our Mid-Week Bible Study returns! Pastor Buddy will continue where he left off in his study on the Kings of Israel. This will be an online only study, starting at 7pm.
First Men’s Breakfast of 2026 is on the 24th January at the normal time of 9:30am. Gentlemen, we hope you are not still too full from Christmas…
We’ve mentioned it a few times already, but now that it’s this month it’s worth saying again: after the service on 25th January we will be having a Business Meeting. Here, we will talk primarily about the budget, but all topics or concerns about the way IBC Giessen is managed are welcomed. We do ask, though, that you get in touch with us first. Attendance is open to everyone, but only those who are members will be allowed to vote.
With many returning to work this week – and school next week – the predicted snow and icy weather might become a nuisance. We need to travel in it, but very likely we would much rather stay at home wrapped up warm looking at it! Whatever you are up to this week we pray that you remain safe, and that the busy-ness of life does not come back so quickly. Be blessed!
