Updates March 2022

Update: Wednesday, March 30th

Dear Church family and friends,

Unfortunately Pastor Buddy and his wife, Kathy, have come down with a stomach virus. This means that this evening’s Bible Study is cancelled as neither is well enough to lead it.

We wish them both a speedy recovery and will continue to hold them in our prayers.

If you had intended on being part of the Bible Study this evening, we hope that you can make alternative plans, and we look forward to seeing you next week instead.

Have a blessed Wednesday!

Update for Wednesday, March 30th

Dear Church family and friends,

In Pastor Buddy’s sermon on Sunday, he asked whether „the Son of Man [will] find faith when He comes“. To find out the answer, or refresh yourself of it, you can watch a recording of the sermon here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75g7T6ez3zs

Perhaps you are already asking yourself what will be happening in the run up to Easter. Well, on Maundy Thursday (14th April) we will be having communion together and commemorating Jesus’ final hours and death; in particular, we will think about how much these events at the end of Jesus’ life impact on our own. This service will take place at 7pm at the FTH. More information will be given in due course.

In the meantime, we will be meeting over Zoom for our mid-week Bible Study, and continuing our journey through the book of Revelation. The meeting takes place at 7pm on Wednesday and everyone is welcome! To get involved, please e-mail Pastor Buddy or office@ibc-giessen.org for a link.

We hope that you are having a blessed week!

Update for Sunday, March 27th

Dear Church family and friends,

If one of the advantages of the beginning of winter is that you gain an extra hour, then a disadvantage of the beginning of spring is that you lose it again! It is, in a way, an equal balance…

That hour loss happens this weekend – on Sunday morning, to be precise. As Pastor Buddy said last week, it may feel like it is 10am, but our service will indeed take place at the regular time of 11am at the FTH facilities. If you make it on time, please don’t forget to bring your masks and keep physically distant from one another. For those who cannot make it, we will still have a livestream, but you will need to get the link to it from Pastor Buddy or office@ibc-giessen.org to attend.

We look forward to seeing you bright and early on Sunday morning!

Update for Wednesday, March 23rd

Dear Church family and friends,

There are a few reminders this week – starting with the catch-up link to Pastor Buddy’s sermon on Sunday:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uptg0mELQgU

On Wednesday evening we will meet together on Zoom and look at the next chapter of Revelation. The meeting starts at 7pm and you will need a link to join in, which you can get by either writing an e-mail to Pastor Buddy or office@ibc-giessen.org

Next Thursday is the first session of a 2-part course run by the Bibelseminar Bonn. This course looks at “Five Languages of Love and Forgiveness” and is led by Gary Chapman. The course will be held in German and takes place online. For more information, or to register, follow this link: https://bsb-online.de/veranstaltungen/paerchenabend-mit-gary-chapman/

Have a blessed week in this first burst of spring sunshine!

Update for Sunday, March 20th

Dear Church family and friends,

As winter finally gives way to spring this Sunday we are again reminded that He makes all things new. The sun has been shining these past few days and the daffodils have been blooming, heralding change.

Before we provide details of our upcoming service on Sunday, we would like to inform you of an online event organised by Bibelseminar Bonn which might be of interest to those who are married or are intending to do so. Entitled “Five Languages of Love and Forgiveness” a two video series is being held by Gary Chapman on 31st March and 7th April 2022. For more information, please visit their website (German): https://bsb-online.de/veranstaltungen/paerchenabend-mit-gary-chapman/

As for this Sunday, not a lot is different. We will still be meeting at 11am at the FTH facilities wearing our masks and keeping physically distanced. The virus is still around – the beginning of the first lockdown now being two years ago – and people are still unsure about meeting, or are ill with the virus themselves, so we will of course continue with our livestream. If you would prefer to, or if it is necessary for you to participate in this way, please get in touch with us at office@ibc-giessen.org for a link.

While Sunday might be the official start of spring, that doesn’t mean that the clocks go forward yet – that’s next week (Sunday 27th). Until then have a blessed week, and we hope you have the chance to enjoy all that this season has to offer!

Update for Wednesday, March 16th

Dear Church family and friends,

Recently at Church, announcements were made regarding the future of our mid-week Bible Studies. We will soon be returning to in-person meetings, with the Women’s Bible Study’s book and topic already being announced. If you would like more information, or would like to sign-up for either the Men’s or Women’s Bible Studies, then please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org. You can also write to this address if you would like more information on our Young Adults’ Bible Study.

First, though, we must finish our exploration of the Book of Revelation, led by Pastor Buddy. This takes place via Zoom at 7pm on a Wednesday evening. While we are beginning to get toward the end of this study, any newcomers are welcome. For a link to the meeting, please write to office@ibc-giessen.org

Until then, here’s Pastor Buddy’s sermon from Sunday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIzuEGgfb8k

Have a blessed week!

Update for Sunday, March 13th

Dear Church family and friends,

Thank goodness it’s Sunday! A day set aside to relax, re-group with God and re-energise for the week ahead. We all need a moment to put our busy-ness aside and just enjoy the day for what it is – and evidently God had that in mind when he created the Sabbath!

To kick off your Sunday, you are invited to join us at Church. The service starts at 11am, and you can either be part of our live congregation at the FTH facilities, or part of the virtual congregation from the comfort of your own home. If you are joining us in-person, please don’t forget to wear a mask and maintain physical distancing. For those watching via our livestream, please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org for a link and remember to mute your microphone when joining.

Have a blessed, peaceful Sunday and a good, refreshed start to the week!

Update for Wednesday, March 9th

Dear Church family and friends,

Our study through the Book of Revelations brings us to chapter 18, verses 18-24 this week. Even if you haven’t been able to join us for our Bible Study so far, you are more than welcome to be part of our Wednesday evening meeting. If you are free from 7pm and have access to a device that supports Zoom, then please e-mail Pastor Buddy or office@ibc-giessen.org for an invite.

Until then, you can listen again to Pastor Buddy’s sermon from Sunday, here:

Have a blessed week!

Update for for Sunday, March 6th

Dear Church family and friends,

Yet again we are confronted with developments in the news and media over which we have no control. This time, however, it has nothing to do with the coronavirus, but with the direct actions of other people. Perhaps dealing with the virus is easier – keeping physically distant and extra vigilant regarding hygiene – but we are at a complete loss when we see extremes of behaviour in others and how they treat their fellow man. Our natural reaction should be to pray: for a change of heart, for peace, for the safety of those suffering; the list is endless.

During our service on Sunday we will, of course, be taking the time to pray for our bruised, damaged world. If you would like to raise your prayers with others, please join us at 11am at the FTH facilities. You will need to sign in on arrival, wear a mask and keep physically distant from others.

Should you be ill, away or otherwise unable to be by our side, you can pray with us via our livestream – just ask Pastor Buddy or write to office@ibc-giessen.org for a link.

It may seem that reasons to worry may be piling up, and that chaos is slowly taking over. Let us continue to ask the Lord to bring order, and how we can be best an example of His light and love in these present times.

Update for Wednesday, March 2nd

Dear Church family and friends,

In spite of the fact that each week follows the same pattern, we’re somehow surprised that we’ve reached Wednesday already. Whatever the reason for that may be, we would still like to remind you of our mid-week Bible Study that takes place at 7pm this evening on Zoom. For a link to the meeting, please e-mail Pastor Buddy or office@ibc-giessen.org

In case you too are completely confused by which day of the week it is, and have missed attending our Church service on Sunday, you can catch-up with Pastor Buddy’s sermon here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roryMrgTHKw

Many blessings for the rest of this week and for the beginning of Lent (and March)!
