Update for Monday, October 28th
Dear Church family and friends,
Nearing the end of October, we now begin the time of year where seasonal illnesses seem to be going around more frequently, and people start looking toward the end of the year more earnestly. Yes, Christmas preparations are underway, but so too is the sense of ‘wrapping things up’ before the festive period and New Year. While this may become more intense in a few weeks’ time, if we’re honest, we can already feel the pressure. In Simon’s sermon yesterday, he reflected on the most comforting of psalms, Psalm 23. A well-known text, but one worth re-visiting and leaning upon as things begin to get busy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7iGV-UGtDU
This Week in Church…
Tuesday evening sees YABS meeting in their smaller groups, dotted around various locations in Giessen. All of them meet at 7pm, but have unique characteristics. To find out what the groups are like or which one is the English speaking one, please drop the team a line at yabs@ibc-giessen.org.
Our Mid-Week Bible Study on Galatians will start looking at the second chapter of the book this Wednesday at 7pm. This is a hybrid meeting, so you can either turn up at the Israel Room in the FTH, or log on via Zoom. You can get a link to the meeting by writing to office@ibc-giessen.org
Then, on Sunday, it’s November. But it isn’t just the first Sunday of the month: it’s Potluck Sunday! If you haven’t yet put your name on the list, it’s not too late! Please write to office@ibc-giessen.org and tell us what you will be bringing, as well as how many people are in your party. The lunch will take place after the service, so those watching the livestream – please use the e-mail address above to get the link – will unfortunately not be able to take part. Our service starts at the usual time of 11am.
Coming Up…
The ladies have two events coming up in November! The first, on 9th November at 11am, sees the King’s Daughters bake Christmas Cookies together. Starting at 11am, there will already be some dough prepared, but the bakers are invited to bring cookie cutters and decorations for the final result. Don’t forget to bring an apron and a tin to transport your goods home! If you would like contribute dough, or would like more information at all please get in touch with office@ibc-giessen.org . Those planning on attending should get in contact by 7th November.
The second event is the Christmas Brunch on Saturday 30th November. Here, too, registration is required so that we may set a place for you!
Everyone is invited to the Christmas Carol Service at 11am on 15th December 2024 (Third Advent Sunday). You could even get involved by suggesting a Christmas carol or song from your culture. If you feel confident enough to lead us in that song, then that would be most welcome! Instrumentalists, singers, and other input have a place in this service – just let us know how you would like to take part!
May God bless you richly this week!
