Update for Monday, November 4th

‘Full’ would be a very good description of how Sunday’s service left us – full of hope, full of encouragement and full of food! Thank you to everyone who provided wonderful dishes for our Potluck yesterday and even heartier thanks goes to those who helped organise the set-up and tidy away!

Ayo gave us food for thought in his sermon on God’s sovereignty. Acknowledging that in difficult times, His reign in our lives is difficult to comprehend, he also touched on the importance of earnest prayer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrUfJdPkJuo

Just before Ayo brought us the Word of God, a missionary we support gave a short report on what’s been happening – thus providing a good example of God’s Word in action. Felix Henrichs’ mission field is the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Here, 80 ships arrive and leave per day, each with people in differing stages of faith. Maybe they’ve never heard the gospel, or perhaps they are believers but are the only ones who do so on board. The seaman’s circumstances are many and varied, but what all of them need is Jesus. This is where Felix and his work with the DMG (Deutsche Missionsgemeinschaft) come in. The best person to give you all the details, though, is the man himself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iws6GbbOF14.

This Week in Church…

It may not seem that long ago since the last one, but it is Big YABS time on Tuesday! This week from 6:30pm the Young Adults will be meeting in the Student Kitchen at the FTH for fellowship, food and an input from Mike Revis on talking to Muslims about the gospel. If you plan on joining, you are more than welcome to bring some food with you for the buffet. Any questions should be directed to yabs@ibc-giessen.org.

On Wednesday at 7pm our Mid-Week Bible Study continues to get to grips with Galatians. The meeting takes place in the Israel Room at the FTH, but you can join in online if you need to, just write to office@ibc-giessen.org for a link.

It’s Christmas cookie time for the ladies this coming Saturday at the last King’s Daughters event of the year! Starting at 10:30am, the group will be baking their festive treats while delving into the inspiring story of Tabitha, as told in the Book of Acts. To find out more information about what you might need to bring with you – and most importantly to register by this Thursday (7th)! – you can get in touch by using the e-mail address mentioned above.

To round off the week we will have our Sunday service at the usual time of 11am. Those unable to get to the Chapel Room at the FTH are more than welcome to log-on and watch via our livestream. You can request a link to it by contacting office@ibc-giessen.org.

Coming Up…

We finally have a time for the Women’s Christmas Brunch on Saturday 30th November. From 10am, the women will be enjoying a festive feast and each other’s company – but only if they get in touch telling us that they will be there! There has been a list at the back of Church for a few Sundays now, but if you keep on forgetting and don’t think you’ll remember until next week, just drop us a line at office@ibc-giessen.org.

Our Christmas Carol service is slowly but surely shaping up. If you have any suggestions, or feel confident enough to lead the Church in a song, or perform it to the congregation, we would love to hear from you! The service itself is on 15th December 2024 (Third Advent Sunday), at our normal starting time.

May God bless you richly this week!
