Putting actions to our words can sometimes be a daunting task. It’s so much easier to promise something and then back out. Yet at the same time, God calls us to be doers of His Word. That means not just talking the talk, but walking the walk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKZJDQBFqKU
Last week, we included an update on Felix Henrichs’ ministry with the seafarers in Rotterdam Port. Part of his mission is the circulation of Christmas boxes among those on board the ships to further encourage the seafarers in what can be an extraordinarily lonely time of the year. We would like to support this action both in deed and in donation.
Could you pack the following items in a shoe box? All items are aimed toward men where appropriate: woollen hat; sweets/chocolates; deodorant; shampoo and shower gel (in a zip-lock bag); toothbrush and toothpaste; as well as a Christmas card with a personal greeting in English. The shoeboxes should look like a present, so please wrap them in festive looking paper and seal them with strong tape. All filled boxes should be handed in to us by Sunday 24th November. If you have any further questions, or would like to enquire about making a financial donation, please write to office@ibc-giessen.org .
This Week in Church…
Our Young Adults meet in their smaller groups again this Tuesday at 7pm. To find out what they are studying and where they are meeting, please write to yabs@ibc-giessen.org
On Wednesday at the same time (7pm), Mid-Week Bible Study takes place in the Israel Room at the FTH to continue their study of the book of Galatians. Don’t worry if you cannot make it, the meeting is in hybrid form – you can also join in online, just e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org for a link.
Sunday sees our regular Church service take place at 11am in the Chapel Room of the FTH. If you cannot make it due to illness, or any other reason, you are more than welcome to watch the livestream – a link to which can be requested by writing to office@ibc-giessen.org
Coming Up…
Gentlemen, your last breakfast together for the year is fast approaching! Please confirm that you will join the gathering on Saturday 23rd November at 9:30am by writing to office@ibc-giessen.org and telling us what you will bring, as well as if any extra visitors will be joining you.
Christmas events reminders…
The weekend following the Men’s Breakfast, the women will be having their own brunch. The annual Women’s Christmas Brunch will be held on Saturday 30th November at 10am in the Student Kitchen at the FTH. Always a well-attended and well-loved event, it’s important to get your name down on the list fast – not because there are limited places, but because we want to host everyone as well as we can! There is a list at the back of the Church for any woman who wishes to attend to put their name on, but if you’ve been meaning to and always forgetting, you can write to office@ibc-giessen.org instead. Make sure to have a think about what dish you might like to bring with you and include that in your mail text.
Our Christmas Carol service on 15th December is still welcoming all contributions! Perhaps you’d like to request a song, or would be willing to perform a Christmas piece. Please do get in touch with us at office@ibc-giessen.org!
May God bless you richly this week!
