Update for January 6th, 2025

Dear Church family and friends,

Last week’s mystery has been solved! Our Church Bible verse of the year – or perhaps ‘Bible section’ would be more appropriate – is Romans 12, verses 9 to 21. Pastor Buddy kicked off this series yesterday during our service with a particular focus on the first verse, verse nine. You might notice that there are similarities to 1 Thessalonians 5: 16. We need to hold on to what is good, and do away with evil, discerning what belongs to which category: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pLGS-0FrH8

This week in Church…

YABS are starting their year with a Big YABS gathering in the Student Kitchen on Tuesday evening. If it is your New Year’s resolution  to get involved with YABS, then this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Starting at 6:30pm with a bring-and-share buffet, the evening will see praise, worship and God’s Word. For more information please write to yabs@ibc-giessen.org.

The Bible Study on Galatians resumes this Wednesday evening at 7pm. You needn’t have been at previous sessions to join in, but we welcome you back if you have! As always, if you are unable to make it to the Israel Room at the FTH for 7pm, we have a Zoom link you can use to join in virtually: just write to office@ibc-giessen.org to get hold of it.

Ladies, you have until this Thursday (9th) to register for Saturday’s King’s Daughters event! The women will be meeting together to chat and reflect on the year just finished, as well as consider what the future holds. Hosted at Anne’s, the afternoon starts at 3pm. All contributions for snacks are much appreciated. To find out where Anne‘s is, and to make sure your name is on the attendees list, please write to office@ibc-giessen.org .

Then it’s Sunday – another week gone! Let’s worship God and gain strength from His Word for the coming week by gathering together for our Service at 11am in the Chapel Room. If you are unable to make it for whatever reason, you can be part of the online congregation by contacting office@ibc-giessen.org for a link to the livestream.

Some more important dates…

The last weekend in January will be a full, but good, one at IBC Giessen. The men will have their first breakfast of the year at 9:30am in the Student Kitchen – but they need to put their names down first! Please write to office@ibc-giessen.org so that we may have an idea for numbers. You should also get thinking about what food you’d like to bring with you. No food = no breakfast.

According to our Church constitution we must give at least two weeks notice if we plan on having a Church Business Meeting. We will be holding such a meeting after the service on 26th January 2025.

Some might have worked throughout the festive period – the children go back to school next week – but a fair few adults would have had their first day back at work today.  Wherever you stand in ‘getting back in the swing of things’, we pray that the return is smooth. Maybe your ‘normal’ now looks different to how it was at the end of 2024. May God strengthen, guide and bless you whatever your situation is this week.
