Dear Church family and friends,
Have you ever been around a person who has clearly lost an argument but really can’t admit it? Rather, they resort to tactics which are designed to embarrass or insult their opponent : that’s precisely what the Sadducees attempted to do in their questioning of Jesus in Matthew 22, Pastor Johannes’ sermon text from Sunday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODfAjegPkn8 .
This week in Church…
Our Young Adults will meet in their regular way on Tuesday evening at 7pm. As there are so many who belong to YABS, they gather together in smaller groups to study, pray and share fellowship together. To find out which group is nearest to you or which one is the English speaking one, please write to yabs@ibc-giessen.org.
Mid-Week Bible Study is on Wednesday evening at 7pm in the Israel Room, or online if that is easier. While they will be continuing their study on the book of Galatians, there is still room for you if you haven’t attended prior sessions. Just grab your Bible and turn up either online or in person!
With it being the first Sunday of the month, our service on Sunday will include the Lord’s Table. If you are unable to make it, we encourage you to gather the elements – some juice and bread – and join in via our livestream. Also during the service we will be talking about the outcome of our Business Meeting, including the resulting change in Leadership and additional Pastor. It sounds like a full service! We will start at the regular time of 11am in the Chapel Room at the FTH.
Ladies only…
On Saturday 8th February the King’s Daughters will be meeting for an afternoon of origami and reflection on Ezekiel 36:26. As yet the location is unknown, but the session will start at 2:30pm. So that we might have an idea of numbers, it would be appreciated if any ladies wanting to attend would either leave a thumbs up in the WhatsApp group, or write to office@ibc-giessen.org by Wednesday 5th February.
Praying Moms is a new initiative organised by Sung and Dolly for the mothers among us to meet online to pray together. These sessions will alternate between Mondays at 9:30am and Tuesdays at 7:30pm each week, with the first session happening next week, 3rd February.
Links to all online meetings and livestreams are available on request at office@ibc-giessen.org
News from the Mission Field…
This week we are introducing a new section to these Church announcements which will take a glimpse at what’s happening with the missionaries we support. Up first is Ecki Graumann, who appeared on the most recent episode of the FTH’s podcast. He is an alumnus of the FTH and was a very active member of IBC Giessen when he lived here to study. Now married with three children, he works in the Wort des Lebens Academy teaching Children and Youth Work. In this podcast – which is in German – he speaks about his work in missionary youth camps, as well as how they are important for the children themselves and what possibilities they give ‘normal’ Church life.
We pray that God blesses you richly and gives you peace this week!
