Dear Church family and friends,
When we wait we can be tempted to do things that ‘pass the time’, especially if we don’t know how long we might be waiting. One immediate dopamine hit can very easily turn into a continued habit – and one which can soon become all-consuming and make us lose sight of the true reward. It is this which Pastor Johannes considered in his sermon from Sunday, where he looked at the parable of two different servants and how they waited faithfully – or not – for their master: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3y4I_81Xv8
This week in Church…
Praying Moms will meet online Tuesday evening at 7:30pm. If that doesn’t fit your schedule, don’t worry! Their next Zoom session will be on Monday 4th August at 9:30am.
Young Adults’ Bible Study (YABS) takes place on Tuesday evening at 7pm. As it is the summer break/exams/lecture-free point of the academic year, it might be that there are some changes. However, YABS usually meets in various places around Giessen, which might continue to be the case this week. If you plan on joining in for the first time this week, we suggest that you write to yabs@ibc-giessen.org first and see what’s happening.
Mid-Week Bible Study on Wednesday at 7pm will continue its look into the kings of Israel and their relevance to us today. No worries if you’ve not been to any previous sessions – newcomers are always welcome! If you cannot make it to the Israel Room of the FTH, just log in to the Zoom meeting from home or wherever you find yourself.
Worship Service takes place on the usual day and time of Sunday at 11am in the Chapel Room of the FTH. As it is the first Sunday of a new month not only will we be looking at our verse for the year, but we will be taking part in the Lord’s Table together. For those already travelling, or have found themselves ill during the summer, we encourage you to gather some juice and bread before you join us via our livestream.
If you require a link to our livestream or any other online activity we have coming up this week, please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org. For a full list of all upcoming events at IBC Giessen, please take a look at the Church Calendar on our website: https://www.ibc-giessen.org/calendar/.
Baptism Service…
With three weeks to go, it is cutting it a bit fine – so consider this the last invite to be baptised in this years’ service. We aim to have one each year at some point in August, but it is of course dependent on numbers. For 2025, our Baptism Service will take place on 17th August, at the Wissmarer See after our Sunday Morning Worship Service at the FTH. We are looking to start at around 2pm at the latest.
Blessings and God’s grace be poured out on to you this week!
