Dear Church family and friends,
‘Revenge is sweet’ or ‘a dish best served cold’ – or not at all, as Pastor Johannes explained to us in his sermon on Romans 12: 17 – 19 on Sunday. We might want to seek justice for something that has happened to us, but doing so doesn’t mean that we strive for peace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKydCmPGMXU.
This week in Church…
Praying Moms takes place on Tuesday this week. They will meet online at 7:30pm. Next week, they will pray together on Monday (13th) at 9:30am.
Young Adults’ Bible Study (YABS) is starting a new chapter this week: they will be meeting weekly as one single group. On Tuesday at 6:30pm they will be ringing the changes by getting together at Oliver and Kristina’s for pumpkin soup, fellowship and God’s Word. If you’d like to join in, just leave a thumbs-up in the WhatsApp group or write to yabs@ibc-giessen.org.
Mid-Week Bible Study will meet in-person on Wednesday at 7pm. The session will take place in a room at our new weekday location of Campus für Christus, which can be found on the corner of Am Unteren Rain and Talstrasse. There is limited on-site parking but there are opportunities to park your car in the surrounding streets. In case you need to use public transport, there’s a bus stop close by on Schiffenberger Weg. It really isn’t that far away from the FTH. At the time of writing we are unsure whether this will be a hybrid event, so we can provide you a link should you need it, but cannot guarantee that it will be hosted or used at all during the session.
Worship Service is on Sunday morning at the usual time of 11am, in the Chapel Room of the FTH building. If you’ve already succumb to the autumn round of colds and flu, we ask you kindly to stay at home and recuperate.
If you require a link to our livestream or any other online activity we have coming up this week, please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org. For a full list of all upcoming events at IBC Giessen, please take a look at the Church Calendar on our website: https://www.ibc-giessen.org/calendar/.
At the end of next week…
… the King’s Daughters will be meeting in the new-to-us Campus für Christus rooms. On Saturday 18th October at 2pm, the ladies will take another attempt at discovering the benefits of memorizing scripture. Galatians 2: 20 will be the focus passage, but you won’t need to recite it in front of the group. If you’re a woman and would be interested in attending, please leave a thumbs-up in the WhatsApp group, or write to the e-mail address given above.
Following the success of the last youth event, another is being planned for 19th October. If you have children in the 5th year at school or older, and they’d like to spend some more time with their Church friends, please get in touch with Pastor Johannes or Pastor Lucas as soon as possible.
News from the Mission Field…
Felix Henrichs is getting ready for Christmas and he needs our help!
His plan is to get as many Christmas boxes out to seafarers as he possibly can, which means that he will need people to supply the goods. We as IBC Giessen would love to get involved again this year – and while we haven’t figured out the dates on our side yet – we are hoping that our congregation will get stuck in.
Even if you don’t have a shoebox to hand, perhaps you would like to start gathering: a hat; men’s deodorant; shampoo and shower gel (put inside a Ziplock bag); toothpaste and toothbrushes; sweets, chocolates, nuts and other tasty things, and a Christmas card with an English greeting in it.
We’ll get back to you with more on where and when to bring it as soon as we are able!
Have a blessed week!
