Dear Church family and friends,
Sometimes we reluctantly compare ourselves with the disciples because we know that we may have behaved in the same way as them. We read the first four books of the New Testament and think “why don’t they get it?”. When we read John 14 verses 15 through 17 – the passage on which Pastor Johannes based Sunday’s sermon, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaJaQUxpcL0 – it provokes a different response: empathy. We all want to know that we are loved, and we want to be shown it, and are lost and worried when it is not immediately obvious that we are regarded in such a way.
This week in Church…
Praying Moms met online via Zoom this morning (Monday 16th) at 9:30am. Next week, their meeting is on Tuesday (24th) at 7:30pm.
Young Adults’ Bible Study (YABS) meets on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. More information can be found in the WhatsApp group or by asking Pastor Johannes, Mona or Oliver. Another way you can get in touch is by writing to yabs@ibc-giessen.org.
Mid-Week Bible Study is also an online only event, but it takes place on Wednesday evening at 7pm. They have been looking at the kings of Israel, and all newcomers are welcome, even if you have missed prior sessions.
Worship Service will take place at the usual time of 11am on Sunday in the Chapel Room at the FTH. We hope that you will join us in person, but if you can’t make it because you are ill or elsewhere, you are more welcome to watch along on our livestream.
For a full list of all upcoming events at IBC Giessen, please take a look at the Church Calendar on our website: https://www.ibc-giessen.org/calendar/. If you require a link to our livestream or any other online activity we have coming up this week, please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org.
Lent begins on Wednesday. It is, in a way, another countdown: albeit 40 days rather than the 24 days of Advent. Easter is on its way – but what does that mean for us? If it is sacrifice, then let us deliberately set aside some time to focus ourselves more on God; each day an allotted amount of time. In comparison it’s not that big an undertaking, but one that will nevertheless be a blessing.
