Updates July 2021

Update for Friday, July 30th

Dear Church family and friends,

Who’s looking forward to the Worship Night on Friday?

Taking place outside at the FTH facilities, it will start at 7:30pm and last for roughly an hour and a half.

Those attending should wear a mask while finding their seat and they should maintain physical distancing at all times. Once a place has been found though, you can take off your masks and join in with singing praises to God!

If it should rain, we will have to cancel the Worship Night as we will not be able to abide by the regulations while meeting inside. We will of course inform you in plenty of time should it come to this.

We pray that you are having a brilliant week and we look forward to seeing you on Friday!

Update for Sunday, July 25th

Dear Church family and friends,

Exciting news! This Friday (30th) will see the long-awaited return of our Worship Nights! Friday’s Worship Night will take place outside at the FTH facilities from 7:30pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Tomorrow’s service (Sunday 25th) however will take place indoors, as rain has been forecast. Andi B. will conclude his two-part series on Colossians 4 with the aid of an English translator. If you would like to join us in worship and listening to God’s word, the service starts at 11am and you will need to wear a FFP2 or medical mask on entering and moving around in the building. The service will also be livestreamed, so if you feel more comfortable participating in that way, please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org – unless you are on the Church directory, in which case please wait for a separate e-mail.

As summer continues, and more events happen and life begins to look like it is returning to normal, there is that added pressure to do as you much as you can and take advantage of everything. Even pre-pandemic it wasn’t possible to be in three places at once – so why should that be any different now? We pray that you know and respect your own limits and can include that in your keeping safe and loving others. We look forward to seeing and meeting you when you are ready.

Have an abundantly blessed week!

Update for Sunday, July 18th

Dear Church family and friends,

Well done everyone, we made it to the end of the 2020/2021 school year! It has been complicated and stressful for many – so rest, recover and enjoy the next 6 weeks of summer holiday!

Of course, not everyone has children or has any connection to a school setting in our Church – many are students still turning in papers and writing exams – but we do hope that there is something coming up in your lives that gives you the same excitement that a school pupil has about their big summer break. Especially in these times full of restrictions and regulations, having certain sign-posts or way-markers, no matter their size, can really boost energy, mood and motivation.

Maybe the thing that you look forward to most is our Sunday services. Good news: we will meet on Sunday at 11am! The current plan is to meet outside as the weather should be sunny and dry – although if this changes, we will keep you informed. Either way you will need to make sure that you have a FFP2 or surgical mask with you.
Lucas G. will be preaching on the well-known verse, “Come to me all who labour, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’ (Matthew 11:25-30) – which is apt given the time of year we are in! If you are unable to join us, you can listen to what Lucas has to say, here:

During the service we will also be praying for those who have found their homes and lives ruined due to the flooding in North-Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, among other areas.

Stay safe, stay healthy and be blessed in this upcoming week!

Update for Sunday, July 11th

Dear Church family and friends,

It’s July and the weather hasn’t been particularly summer-y, has it? On one hand – given the current situation in which we find ourselves – it’s disappointing, because we are driven back indoors where the guidelines are a little more strict. On the other hand, it means that we get to have another attempt at livestreaming the service, which is exactly what we’ll be doing this Sunday.

Johannes A. will be back in IBC Gießen this Sunday bringing the Word of God to us.
The service will start at the usual time of 11am, and those attending will have to wear masks as they enter the building and take their seat. If, however, you would like to attend the service from the comfort of your own home, you are more than welcome to; by e-mailing office@ibc-giessen.org you can be sent a link to follow along on your laptop, tablet or phone.

In case you missed it: there is a recording of the sermon given by Andreas B. at our service last Sunday on YouTube. To listen to it, just click here:

Have a blessed and safe weekend – and for the children among us, enjoy your last week of school before the summer holidays!

Update for Wednesday, July 7th

Dear Church family and friends,

Our livestream on Sunday was a success! For those of you who were unable to attend the service either physically or virtually – or if you would like to listen again – a recording of the sermon was made and can be found here:

While livestreaming did work well, it may be that it is not the “standard” for presenting an IBC sermon online. Be sure to check back on Fridays for details of our next service!

As previously mentioned, our mid-week Bible Study will be taking a break for the summer – but not before we delve into the last two chapters of the Book of Ruth. Please join us tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7pm as we conclude this mini-series and pray for one another! To get involved, please e-mail Ayo or office@ibc-giessen.org and you will be sent a Zoom link to the meeting.

We pray that in spite of the miserable weather, you are having a good week!

Update for Sunday, July 4th

Dear Church family and friends,

It’s a new month (again!) and with it, we are trying something new!

Instead of having a pre-recorded sermon, we will be livestreaming the service from the FTH facilities. Of course, if you would like to be part of the congregation we would love to see you there – but if you feel safer watching from your laptop or PC at home that is also understandable. The service will be held at the usual time of 11am.
We are only able to livestream if we meet inside, and given that rain is forecast for Sunday morning it is what we would most likely do anyway. This means, however, that a FFP2 or surgical mask must be worn to your seat, where you may then take it off.

This week’s sermon, preached by Andi Bil, will be given in German and translated into English.

To access the livestream for the service, we ask that you would check your e-mails tomorrow (Saturday) evening. If you have not received weekly service announcement e-mails, then you are most likely not on the Church e-mail list. Please write an e-mail to office@ibc-giessen.org and we will get in touch with a link to the service.

In spite of the not so promising weather, we pray that you have a brilliant and blessed weekend!
