Dear Church family and friends,
During times of celebration – specifically Easter and Christmas – we are encouraged to also remember those for whom those occasions will not be so happy. Pentecost for followers of Christ is an additional moment in the calendar year which should be met with rejoicing, as it marks the formation of God’s church.
Truth be told, we have had an extremely painful week this week at IBC Giessen. To the shock of everyone, we lost a dear Brother in Christ. Pastor Lucas’ sermon from Sunday refers to his passing a few times, reflecting on this tragic loss while keeping Pentecost in mind. It is not an upbeat, energetic, jubilant sermon, but a sombre yet encouraging one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zarX4HiE5R0
This week in Church…
Praying Moms took place this morning (Monday 9th June) at 9:30am. If you are a mother, regardless of how old your children are, and missed this opportunity to pray with other mothers perhaps next Tuesday (17th) at 7:30pm would be better suited to you.
Young Adults’ Bible Study (YABS) takes place on Tuesday evening, with groups meeting around Giessen at 7pm. If you would like to find out more about what they are studying or who is meeting where, please write to yabs@ibc-giessen.org
Mid-Week Bible Study continues on Wednesday evening at 7pm in the Israel Room in the FTH. If you are unable to make it for that time, you are more than welcome to join this study on Israel’s Kings via Zoom.
The next King’s Daughters event is this Saturday at 2pm, at Yelena’s place. Their topic this time is our identity as children of God. Snacks and drinks will be provided, as well as stationary for making cards with encouraging proclamations. If you are in the WhatsApp group you can leave a thumbs-up there, letting Gabriela, Debora and Yelena know that you will be attending – Yelena’s address can also be found there. If not, then please write to the e-mail address given below and we will pass the information on. Please get in touch by Thursday 12th if possible.
Our Worship Service will take place at end of the week, in its usual slot of Sunday morning at 11am. If you are unwell, or unable to get to the Chapel Room for any other reason, we encourage you to join in online.
If you require a link to our livestream or any other online activity we have coming up this week, please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org. For a full list of all upcoming events at IBC Giessen, please take a look at the Church Calendar on our website: https://www.ibc-giessen.org/calendar/.
Church BBQ…
Our Church BBQ will still be taking place after the service on Sunday 22nd. With one thing and another, a sign-up list has not appeared at the back of the Church. We still need to have an idea of the number of people attending though, so we may purchase enough sausages for the barbeque. If you plan on coming, please get in contact with the e-mail address given above telling us how many will be in your party. Don’t feel that you need to include what salad, side or dessert you will bring – but that information would be greatly appreciated!
We pray the God brings you solace, peace and blessings this week.
