Update for Monday, March 16th 2026

Dear Church family and friends,

What happens if our disobedience doesn’t stem from laziness or a simple lack of desire to do the task, but fear? An aversion to complete a task because of the anxiety it brings. You might want the result, but getting to that stage is what scares you. Some fears are situation based – where you ‘pull yourself together’ and get on with it – others are long-lasting phobias. The question we must ask ourselves, and the disciples must ask themselves in John 14 : 28 – 31, is who do we trust in our times of fear? Does our behaviour show where our loyalties lie? Perhaps Pastor Johannes’ sermon from Sunday can give us more insight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E08YpBAdwdw.

This week in Church…

Praying Moms had their last online prayer gathering this morning. Due to a steady decline in attendance it has been decided to close this group. We are sorry for any disappointment that this causes.

Young Adults’ Bible Study (YABS) meets on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. More information can be found in the WhatsApp group or by asking Pastor Johannes, Mona or Oliver. Another way you can get in touch is by writing to yabs@ibc-giessen.org.

Mid-Week Bible Study continues their exploration of Israel’s kings on Wednesday at 7pm. This is an online only event. We look forward to seeing you there!

Worship Service on Sunday morning will take place at the usual time of 11am, in the FTH Chapel Room. If you are not able to make it, you are more than welcome to join us via our livestream.

For a full list of all upcoming events at IBC Giessen, please take a look at the Church Calendar on our website: https://www.ibc-giessen.org/calendar/. If you require a link to our livestream or any other online activity we have coming up this week, please e-mail office@ibc-giessen.org.

Concerts…

A dear member of ours works at the ERF meaning that they have insider knowledge on when and where Christian musicians will be touring in Germany. We’ve been sent a whole list of relatively local ones that goes up to October – and you can ask us for that if you’d like – but for now we’re sharing with you Kim Walker-Smith in Wetzlar on Thursday 26th March (https://www.cvents.eu/de/kim-walker-smith-chris-quilala-the-testify-tour-wetzlar-26032026/) and Rend Collective, also in Wetzlar, on Wednesday 20th May (https://www.cvents.eu/de/rend-collective-europe-tour-2026-live-in-concert-wetzlar-20052026/). For more information, please do look at the links given. The concerts are not affiliated with IBC Giessen, though we hope you have a good time if you are able to go!

In next week’s Church announcement we’ll have more details on our Easter activities – it’s come around quickly! Until then, know that God is bigger than our insecurities and fears. The world might look particularly dark and terrifying right now, but it isn’t the end of the story. Rescue is coming. It may not be in the way that we would think, but thankfully God is even greater than the scope of our imagination!

Have a blessed week!
